Has Anxiety Made Your Life So Much Harder Than It Needs To Be?

Are you tired of continually feeling like you’re in a tailspin of fear, worry and stress? Do you struggle with:

  • People-pleasing behaviors and constant feelings of self-doubt?

  • Social anxiety that makes it hard to be yourself and express yourself around others?

  • Headaches, nausea, and other physical symptoms that interrupt your day?

Anxiety can make your life feel exhausting and overwhelming. Simple tasks—getting out of bed, focusing on work, and keeping up with household responsibilities—can feel like climbing a mountain. Your mind feels like it’s racing at a thousand miles per hour, while your body feels tense, drained and unable to relax. If this sounds familiar, you may be realizing it’s time to talk with a therapist who understands anxiety and can help you find calmness, clarity and balance again.

Anxiety Can Make Your Whole World Feel Small

The hallmark of anxiety is avoidance. Everyday social interactions can feel stressful and intimidating, leading you to withdraw and isolate more than usual. You might turn down opportunities to meet new people and try new things. While avoidance can create a temporary sense of safety, over time it can leave you feeling stuck—watching life move forward without you, and wondering about the chances you didn’t take.

Thankfully, there is another way to live.

With the support of therapy, you can reduce your self-doubt, build your resilience and ultimately remove anxiety from the driver’s seat of your life. As the founder of Roanoke Counseling, I specialize in helping people like you move toward a life marked by greater confidence, peace and authenticity. I would be honored to help you do the same.

If You’re Struggling With Anxiety, You’re Not Alone

Anxiety is an epidemic in American society today. According to the Anxiety and Depression Association of America, about 40 million adults—or 18 percent of the population—suffer from an anxiety disorder each year.* And when you consider that many of those who live with anxiety disorders go undiagnosed or do not receive treatment, the actual number is probably much higher.

Simply put, we live in a culture where there is so much pressure to do everything perfectly and hold it all together. From all sides, we are bombarded by:

  • Pressure from social media to maintain picture-perfect lives

  • Pressure from the home to be adequate spouses and caregivers

  • Pressure from the workplace to be successful and work long hours

Life is fast-paced and we are encouraged to be constantly connected, leaving us with little space in our lives for rest, creativity and relaxation. It’s no wonder so many people suffer from chronic stress and anxiety in our culture today. Most of us are overworked, overwhelmed and burnt out, which is why therapy and intentional self-care are so essential for our overall wellbeing.

What To Expect In Anxiety Counseling Sessions

To uncover the root causes of anxiety, I’ll explore patterns, beliefs and past experiences that contribute to ongoing worry, often incorporating solution-focused strategies, emotion regulation skills and self-compassion practices. These tools will provide you with tangible ways to cope with stress and learn strategies to navigate life’s challenges more effectively.

I draw from a variety of evidence-based interventions in anxiety treatment, including:

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to identify and challenge unhelpful thought patterns, such as catastrophizing or all-or-nothing thinking.

  • Mindfulness exercises like breathwork and grounding to calm your nervous system and reduce physical tension.

  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to help you normalize your anxiety while cultivating self-compassion and focusing on what’s within your control.

As a Christian, I’m also happy to incorporate a faith-based perspective into anxiety therapy when desired. At the same time, I respect each client’s beliefs and tailor my approach to meet you where you are—without imposing my own perspective.

Together, we’ll work toward a future where anxiety no longer controls your decisions or holds you back from living the life you want.

You May Have Some Questions About Anxiety Therapy…

  • It’s natural to worry that talking about anxiety might make it worse. While it can feel intimidating at first, avoiding or burying anxiety often gives it more power. Speaking openly with a professionally trained counselor can help you uncover the root causes of your struggles and provide the insight you need to manage and overcome them.

In our work together, I’ll make sure you have plenty of practical coping skills at your disposal, so you don’t feel overwhelmed or alone in the process.

  • The answer depends on your individual goals—every client’s journey is different. Some people seek short-term relief, while others are looking for deeper, long-term healing. You may find that just a few sessions are enough to help you feel more like yourself and regain your footing. No matter the timeline, I encourage you to be patient with yourself. There’s no need to rush the process, and it’s perfectly okay to move at a pace that feels right for you.

  • You know yourself best, and if you’re reading this page, it’s likely because you sense that anxiety is affecting your life. Common signs to watch for include:

    • Irritability

    • Restlessness

    • Difficulty concentrating

    • Avoidance behaviors

    • Lack of sleep

Therapy provides a safe, supportive space to understand these patterns, develop coping strategies and find relief before anxiety becomes more overwhelming.

Anxiety Does Not Define You

It might impact your work, sleep, relationships and other areas of your life, but that doesn’t mean it has to continue doing so. You are resilient, and it’s my goal to help you tap into that resilience so that you can create a more vibrant future for yourself.
